April 19th-25th is National Infertility Awareness Week. It’s a time to raise awareness and to provide support for people struggling to build a family. It’s an issue that can affect anyone and together we can change the conversation.
Here’s some simple ways you can get involved and start making a difference today.
Wear Orange
Wear orange. Do it! It’s an easy way to show your support for National Infertility Awareness Week. RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association chose this color because it promotes a sense of wellness and emotional energy. Studies have found that it can contribute to increased socialization, boost feelings of contentment and assurance, and create a heightened sense of activity.
Wearing orange can be as simple as wearing an orange shirt, socks, lipstick, or even just your nails. Be sure to take a selfie this week and tag @resolveorg and use the #WearOrange to show your support.
Join a Virtual DIY Walk of Hope
It’s still possible to participate while practicing safe social distancing thanks to this year’s virtual DIY Walk of Hope. These virtual walks are being hosted by people like you for their local communities. The funds that are raised from the Walk will help support RESOLVE programming such as public awareness initiatives, support groups, and advocacy efforts.
Attend RESOLVE’s Virtual Advocacy Day
RESOLVE’s Virtual Advocacy Day is an interactive online event on May 20th that consists of interactive training sessions, high-level speakers, and advocacy skill workshops. It will also include coordinated advocacy where it will be possible to virtually meet with members of Congress and staff. The last day to register is May 15, 2020.
Post on Social Media
Get social! During National Infertility Awareness Week, if you are comfortable, share the daily impact that infertility has on your life. It’s an opportunity for advocacy and empathy. You can share your story on Twitter or Instagram with the tags @resolveorg, #NIAW, #IamChangingtheConversation, #NationalInfertilityAwarenessWeek, and #MyStory.
You can also tell your story in pictures with NIAW’s Five Day Photo Challenge.
Plan a Virtual Fundraiser
There are so many ways you can raise money for infertility awareness. You can have a digital happy hour, teach a yoga or dance class, or host a virtual game night. If you have an upcoming birthday, housewarming party, or the like you can also request a donation in lieu of a gift. Check out RESOLVE’s fundraising page for more tips and tricks to get your own virtual fundraiser started.
Share Your Story
Sharing your infertility journey with others is a great way to spread awareness and to help others through their struggles. It builds a community and gives you a voice and platform to be heard. You can read more stories about people’s infertility journeys here.
